DENVER (KDVR) — Housing affordability remains a top issue for Denver voters ahead of the mayoral runoff on June 6. Where do the two candidates stand on the issue?Mayoral candidate Mike Johnston has been a vocal proponent of creating micro-communities, where half-acre lots around the city would host tiny houses. Johnston said it could help the homeless population by getting them in contact with mental health support, addiction treatment and workforce training. Now, the former state senator's opponent is sharing her plan when it comes to helping families own a home. This week on "Colorado Point of View," Kelly Brough shared her thoughts on creating entry-level condominiums across the city. "Usually, buying a condo is how you get into home ownership and we're really not building them in Denver today," Brough said. Denver mayoral candidates discuss their plans for public safety Her comments come as home prices start to drop nationwide compared to last year, but higher interest rates ar...Outdoor Colorado: Double-amputee cyclist finds a new way to ride

ENGLEWOOD, Colo. (KDVR) - A bicycle is a perfect metaphor for life. Sometimes it is smooth, and sometimes it can be very rough. But it is a ride that we all must take.Nicholas Young was on a ride one day that changed his life forever. That was 2015 in Chicago. What are Colorado’s signs of summer? "I couldn’t see that the road had a big pothole because it wasn’t clear from my point of view. There was just a glassy clear surface on the road but what I didn’t know is underneath that water there was a pothole that was probably nearly a foot deep," he said.Young crashed hard. His legs never properly healed and in October 2018 he made one of the toughest decisions in his life. He decided to have his right leg amputated."I literally woke up from surgery crying from relief, but I knew this was the right decision," Young said. Two years later, Young became a double amputee. But he was not ready to give up riding his bicycle, or life and he paid attention when someone suggested he look into ...South Florida artist PXTN to release new single ‘Bloodstream’

WESTWOOD — In uncharacteristic fashion, the Westwood girls lacrosse team suffered three early losses this season, albeit to very good opponents.Coach Margot Spatola told her team it could come back, and to not lose faith. If Thursday night’s game with Lincoln-Sudbury was any indication, the two-time defending Div. 1 state champion Wolverines are plenty capable of reaching whatever goals remain. With a dominant first half on the draws and overall strong play, Westwood led throughout and held off a very good L-S team, 8-7.Westwood improves to 18-3 overall, while L-S drops to 16-2.“This is where we want to be,” Spatola said. “We knew our early April team … We did our very best not to worry about that first loss, and all of that. We want to be hitting our stride now. So, we definitely have work to do every day, but I think we’re feeling good, and ready to continue to work.”“I think we’ve really dialed it in at practice,” said Oli...Division 5 track: North Reading girls, Pentucket boys grab leads

NORWELL – For North Reading junior Madison Vant, improving in the pentathlon was a huge motivator for the offseason. An increase in strength training, followed by a productive spring, paved the way for her to claim victory in the event at the Division 5 Outdoor Track and Field Championships at Norwell High School.“You need to stay in a positive mindset and make sure you take it one event at a time,” Vant said. “When you’re doing hurdles at the beginning, you can’t be thinking about the 800 (meters) because that is hours away. You have to make sure you are focused on each individual event, warm up properly for the events, and perform to the best of your ability.”She rode a first-place finish in the shot put, second-place finishes in the hurdles and long jump and third and fifth-place finishes in the high jump and 800-meter to earn the victory. On the boys side, Cohasset’s Nathan Askjaer took the victory in the pentathlon. To earn the victory, Vant eclipsed the 3,000-point mark, f...Westford Academy rallies in 11th inning to remain undefeated (17-0)

But Brogdon is playing through the injury and hasn’t missed a game yet in the Eastern Conference Finals.“He’s playing through it, giving us whatever he has, and we’re just kind of going through it like that, how he’s playing and how he’s managing it,” Celtics coach Joe Mazzulla said. “He’s fighting through, and grateful for that.”According to the report, Brogdon – who is wearing a black sleeve on his arm – suffered the injury during Game 1 when he was boxing out the Heat’s Kevin Love in the first quarter.Brogdon was probable for Game 2 with a right forearm strain and played, but his playing time has decreased as the series has progressed. Nick Madrigal became the odd man out in the Chicago Cubs infield mix.The Cubs had carried an extra position player while using a four-man rotation since Hayden Wesneski’s demotion to Triple-A Iowa on May 15. Kyle Hendricks’ return Thursday night from the injured list to make his season debut — his first start since July 5 — meant the bench needed to be trimmed.Madrigal was the casualty, optioned to Iowa as the corresponding move.Manager David Ross said Madrigal took the news professionally and they had a good conversation in which Ross outlined his vision for Madrigal’s future. It starts with regular playing time in Triple A at second and third base.“We knew where we saw him and we knew where he stood in his thoughts,” Ross said. “Nick is a really high-level player. We want to get him back to the best version of him because that’s when we’re going to be at our best.”Madrigal’s fit on the Cubs roster took a hit w...Mets Notebook: Tomas Nido reinstated from IL, Gary Sanchez designated for assignment

CHICAGO — The Mets came one step closer to finding a resolution to their crowded catching situation Thursday when they designated Gary Sanchez for assignment to make room for Tomas Nido on the 26-man roster, who was reinstated from the 10-day injured list. Omar Narvaez (left calf strain) officially started his rehab assignment with High-A Brooklyn.Nido has been out since May 10 with dry eye syndrome, a condition that occurs when tears aren’t able to properly lubricate the eye. It can be common for some people who have undergone LASIK surgery, which Nido has.The 29-year-old worked with an eye doctor to find a solution to the problem, which resulted in punctal plugs, contact lenses and allergy medication. Punctal plugs are tiny plugs inserted into the opening of the tear drainage duct in the corner of the eye (the punctum).Nido needed an IL stint and a rehab outing to be able to get used to the contact lenses and glasses since he hadn’t previously had them since the ...MBTA takes steps to hike bus driver pay amid service cuts

The MBTA is trying to chip away at its bus operator shortage by offering higher starting wages, and giving all drivers the option to work full-time hours.Under a new agreement with the Boston Carmen’s Union, the MBTA, for the first time, is allowing new drivers to start at 40 hours per week, rather than 30. This would bump an annual starting salary from $34,647 to $46,196, based on a $22.11 hourly rate for new hires. The option to work full-time will also be extended to part-time drivers already employed by the T. Those working beyond 40 hours per week will also be paid overtime, MBTA spokesperson Joe Pesaturo said.“That is an important roadblock that we have eliminated, and moving forward we envision that will help us greatly accelerate the hire of bus operators,” MBTA General Manager Phillip Eng said at a Thursday Board of Directors meeting.Boston Carmen’s President Jim Evers said allowing bus drivers to work more hours is a “great way to get more workers in the door.” The shift, h...Latest news
