(KRON) -- The year is 2005, and you're headed to any mall in America. Chances are that mall has a Sears. You (or your parents) probably bought something or just passed by the store to get into the heart of the mall.Fast forward to today, Sears stores seem like historical artifacts that you only see in museums. However, there are still a few left that are open for business, including one here in the Bay Area. The Sears at Sunvalley Mall in Concord is one of the 12 remaining locations open in the United States. The next closest Sears currently in operation is in Stockton. See the list (below) of the remaining Sears stores in the United States. Last year, Sears permanently closed 71 stores nationwide. The decline of the once-retail giant has been well-documented. In 2018, Sears filed for bankruptcy, which led to the closure of 142 stores that year. According to The Wall Street Journal, Sears had around 900 stores open in 2018. A South Florida woman is hoping surveillance video will lead to the capture of a man who was recorded pedaling away on the bicycle she got for Christmas, one that she was planning to ride at a very special fundraiser. The brazen bike burglary took place Tuesday afternoon in the parking garage of the Grove Forest Plaza, located along the 2900 block of Southwest 27th Avenue in Coconut Grove. The owner of the bicycle, Alejandra Santana, spoke with 7News on Thursday.“Unfortunately, [the thief] came in right when security went to have lunch,” she said. The security personnel’s lunch was this crook’s all-you-can-eat buffet.“He grabbed my bike and hopped on it and left,” said Santana.Santana’s brand-new bike was on the back of her parked car. Maine’s top election official ejected former President Donald Trump from the state’s ballot on Thursday, declaring him ineligible to serve as president because of his role in the Jan. 6, 2021, attack on Congress. The ruling by Maine Secretary of State Shenna Bellows, a Democrat, is certain to inflame a roaring national debate over whether the Republican presidential frontrunner should be allowed to hold power again. The decision makes Maine the second state in two weeks to disqualify Trump’s candidacy due to the constitutional bar on officeholders who supported or “engaged in insurrection or rebellion.” Last week the Colorado Supreme Court barred Trump from the state’s Republican primary ballot under a similar interpretation of the 14th Amendment.Bellows’ decision on Thursday increases the pressure on the U.S. Supreme Court to step in and ultimately decide Trump’s fate — as the Colorado GOP petitioned the justices this week to do.Unlike the Colorado ruling, this one comes from an indi...The year of the unpleasant return is finally over!

Welcome to a special POLITICO 28 edition of Declassified, a weekly humor column. So, as 2023 staggers to a close like a bloody-nosed drunk lurching down the street on the way to the all-night garage, there’s one main takeaway: Never rule out terrible people and things making a comeback. Obviously, top of the list is the conflict in the Middle East, which had definitely gone away until October 7 (are you absolutely sure about this?: International affairs editor). Not far behind was the U.K., whose tumultuous political year was bookended by two very unlikely returns. First, in February, Liz Truss came back. You may remember that Truss was unceremoniously and embarrassingly ousted as prime minister after just 45 days in October 2022 — that’s less time than Rihanna’s “Umbrella” spent at No. 1 in the U.K. singles chart — because the economy had crashed through the floor. But she roared back in style with a 4,000-word essay in the Sunday Telegraph in which she sla...Latest news
