FOXBORO — You want a sneak peek of the Patriots’ game plan against the Jets? Here it is.Here are all of their chosen schemes, film findings, scribbled Xs and Os condensed into three words that apply to all three phases: play cleaner football. That’s it.If the Patriots can wait out them again, they will watch Jets puke on themselves, slip in their own mess and fall flat on their backs. Then, all the Pats will need to do Sunday is tip-toe around that mess to leave MetLife Stadium with a win.Because that is exactly how this series has played out ever since Mac Jones and Zach Wilson were drafted in 2021. And with Wilson back under center, it will be the same script moving forward. To review: Jones eked out a 25-6 Patriots win in his second career start, one best remembered for four equally hilarious and terrible Wilson interceptions. Next, the Pats bludgeoned the Jets by 41 in a rebound win to right their season. Last year, Wilson fired three more picks in a 22-17 Pats win, bef...

Sounds reasonable? Well, consider the nine beverages are all nonalcoholic.Cured Mount Lassen trout might come with a coriander shrub with white and purple currants. Maine lobster is paired with lactic-fermented green strawberries, raw carrots and strawberry vinegar, and Umpqua Valley lamb has beetroot juice with blackberries smoked over applewood. The spirits-free pairing is actually one of the less expensive options in the Bay Area. Trial of police officers to begin in Elijah McClain’s 2019 death from sedative and neck hold

Published Mon, 03 Mar 2025 21:49:02 GMT

BRIGHTON, Colo. (AP) — The trial of two suburban Denver police officers was set to begin Wednesday in the killing of Elijah McClain, a Black man put in a neck hold and injected with a powerful sedative whose 2019 death later became a rallying cry for nationwide protests and spurred police reform in Colorado. In the first of several trials stemming from the death of McClain, lawyers for the two sides are expected to paint contrasting pictures of the deadly struggle between the officers and the 23-year-old, who was stopped by police while walking home from a convenience store listening to music on his headphones while carrying only a plastic bag and his phone. One question jurors could be asked to decide is whether it was lawful for officers Randy Roedema and Jason Rosenblatt to detain and use force against McClain, who a 911 caller had reported as being suspicious. If prosecutors can convince jurors the stop was unjustified, that would undermine any argument that McClain’s injuries we...

Attorney General Garland faces GOP questioning on authority of prosecutor in Hunter Biden case

Published Mon, 03 Mar 2025 21:49:02 GMT

WASHINGTON (AP) — House Republicans clashed with Attorney General Merrick Garland on Wednesday, accusing him and the Justice Department of the “weaponization” of the department’s work in favor of President Joe Biden ‘s son Hunter.Garland’s appearance before the House Judiciary Committee was the first in two years and came at an unprecedented moment in the department’s history: He’s overseeing two cases against Donald Trump, the first former president to face criminal charges, and another against the sitting president’s son. Republicans on the committee — led by Rep. Jim Jordan, the chairman — set the tone with accusations that the Justice Department is favoring the Biden family, while targeting his opponent, Trump.“There’s one investigation protecting President Biden. There’s another one attacking President Trump,” Jordan, Republican of Ohio, said in his opening statement. “The Justice Department’s got both sides of the equation covered.”Garland — carefully and del...

NASA spacecraft delivering biggest sample yet from an asteroid

Published Mon, 03 Mar 2025 21:49:02 GMT

Planet Earth is about to receive a special delivery — the biggest sample yet from an asteroid. A NASA spacecraft will fly by Earth on Sunday and drop off what is expected to be at least a cupful of rubble it grabbed from the asteroid Bennu, closing out a seven-year quest. The sample capsule will parachute into the Utah desert as its mothership, the Osiris-Rex spacecraft, zooms off for an encounter with another asteroid.Scientists anticipate getting about a half pound (250 grams) of pebbles and dust, much more than the teaspoon or so brought back by Japan from two other asteroids. No other country has fetched pieces of asteroids, preserved time capsules from the dawn of our solar system that can help explain how Earth — and life — came to be.Sunday’s landing concludes a 4 billion-mile (6.2-billion-kilometer) journey highlighted by the rendezvous with the carbon-rich Bennu, a unique pogo stick-style touchdown and sample grab, a jammed lid that sent some of the stash spilling int...

Talking Heads on the once-in-a-lifetime ‘Stop Making Sense’

Published Mon, 03 Mar 2025 21:49:02 GMT

TORONTO (AP) — You may find yourself in a movie theater with “Stop Making Sense” playing and the members of Talking Heads in the audience. That was the once-in-a-lifetime scenario when the new 4K restoration of “Stop Making Sense” premiered recently at the Toronto International Film Festival. On screen was a young, elastic David Byrne. In the theater, he was dancing, too, along with a crowd who couldn’t stay seated for “Burning Down the House.”“For a moment I thought, ‘Is it OK for me to get up and dance at our own movie?” Byrne says, laughing, the morning after. “But how could you not?”For nearly four decades, “Stop Making Sense,” directed by Jonathan Demme, has exerted an inexorable pull on all who encounter the frenetic fever of arguably the finest concert film ever made. Its power to bring together — it opens with Byrne alone on a spare stage and swells into an art-funk spectacular — is such that it’s even managed to reunite the Talking Heads, too.For the first time in 21 years, ...
